ABOUT
Rannveig Björk Gylfadóttir, known as Rannsý, is an Icelandic Contemporary Fine Art Photographer. She has a Certificates from a program in Creative Photography at the “Ljósmyndaskólinn” in Reykjavik. With a background in oncology nursing and certification in mindfulness instruction, she approaches her work as a meditative, expressive practice. She’s drawn to abstract, impressionistic, and expressionist explorations, interpreting feelings and emotions. Her subjects are in landscape and portrait as well, and in emerging it together. She uses sometimes Intentional Camera Movement and Multiple Exposure to create painterly images refined in Lightroom and Photoshop, without AI. Her work has been internationally featured in On Landscape, Artdoc Photography Magazine, ICM Photography Magazine, and Spectaculum Magazine, and she held her first solo exhibition in Akranes, Iceland, 2025.
“Mindfulness and meditation training have been my anchor in life, helped me being more present and learn to slow more down and be more pro-active instead of reactive. Learning more about self-acceptance and self-compassion has helped me grow as a person, being both kinder and show more compassion to self and others. The common humanity is the main key there, we are all part of this world, so we ought to look more into what unite us instead of what tears us apart. When I make my photographs, you could say that I most often go into flow state, which you could call moving meditation, which gives me lot of energy, calm, joy, and happiness. My aim is that my works reflect my feelings and to evoke feelings, thoughts, and emotions within the viewer.”
